You register a clinic in ABDM's Health Facility Registry through the unified providers portal at nhpr.abdm.gov.in (the older facility.abdm.gov.in link redirects there). It's free, the form takes about 20 to 30 minutes if your papers are ready, and the result is a verified facility listing plus a Facility ID. This is the "register your clinic" half of ABDM. (For what ABDM and the registries actually are, start with the plain-English explainer.)
What to have ready before you start
Gather these first so you're not hunting mid-form:
- A Healthcare Professional ID (HPID). You register the facility through an HPID account, so create or sign in with one first (it comes from HPR registration) and pick the facility-manager role.
- A mobile-linked Aadhaar for OTP-based verification.
- Your facility details: name, type (clinic, polyclinic, diagnostic centre), ownership, full address, and operating hours.
- The services and infrastructure you offer: departments, number of beds (if any), diagnostic facilities, and so on.
- Contact details for the facility.
That HPID comes from the Healthcare Professionals Registry, so in practice the doctor-side registration comes first. The two registries stay separate, but a person holding an HPID is who registers the facility: the facility is the building, the HPR is the person.
The steps
- Sign in with your HPID at nhpr.abdm.gov.in (create one via Aadhaar-based KYC if you don't have it) and choose the facility-manager role.
- Search for your facility. Many clinics were pre-loaded from earlier directories. If yours appears, select it to claim it; if not, choose to register a new facility.
- Fill the facility form: type, ownership, address, timings, the services you offer, and infrastructure details.
- Submit for verification and answer any follow-up queries the verifier raises.
- Get your Facility ID once approved. Your clinic is now a verified entry in the HFR.
After you submit
Form completion is quick, but approval is a separate step, so don't expect the Facility ID the same minute. Once it's issued, the facility is discoverable as a verified provider, and it's the anchor other ABDM features hang off, like exchanging records on patient consent. Whether you need any of that yet is a fair question, covered in is ABDM mandatory for clinics.
Where Avinya Plus fits, honestly
ABHA/ABDM support in Avinya Plus is an early, opt-in capability, and we don't claim to be "ABDM certified", because that's a specific NHA process and we'd rather be precise than wave a badge. What we build for today is the foundation registration rewards: a single structured patient record and data you can export, so going digital never traps your information. Treat ABDM as the direction of travel and keep your records portable now.
This is general guidance, not official documentation. The HFR portal and its steps change; confirm the current flow on nhpr.abdm.gov.in before you file.
Frequently asked questions
- Does registering on the HFR cost anything?
- No. Registering a facility in the Health Facility Registry is free. The portal is run by the National Health Authority.
- Is HFR registration mandatory to run a clinic?
- No. HFR registration is voluntary for running a private clinic. It becomes practically useful or required mainly when you want to exchange records over ABDM or join schemes that ask for a facility ID.
- My clinic already shows up when I search. Do I still register?
- Yes. Older directories pre-loaded many facilities, but you still claim and complete the listing so the details are correct and the facility is verified under your account.
- How long does HFR approval take?
- Filling the form takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes if your documents are ready. Verification and approval then happen separately, so plan for a wait rather than an instant facility ID.
- Do I need a Healthcare Professional ID (HPID) to register my clinic?
- Yes. Facility registration is done through an HPID account. Create one for free or sign in with an existing HPID, then choose the facility-manager role to register the clinic.
